This book store is called Paagman Book Store which is based in The Hague, Netherlands. As a common book store, the bookshelves are the main important furniture. In this case, CUBE Architects is designed the bookshelves for this Paagman Book Store. The bookcase of this Paagman Book Store is designed in the entrance of The Hague’s Central library for a new location for one of the Paagman’s Book Stores. In a way which the small space in the between the escalator, the pillars and the glass round facade intertwine with Richard Meier’s architecture, the interior has been fitted precisely. The entire bookcase of The Paagman Book Store is framed with the bright house color of Paagman.
Two long-drawn-out bookshelves with an aisle in between it, are curved along the open shape of the facade, it is found in the open floor plan. The length of the segments of the bookcase is adjusting to the radials which is determines the size of the existing facade segments itself.
The bookcase is seems looked transparent because of a large space which is found between the shelves. There is a good view on the outside square and both customer and the book are visible for the passenger outside from within the store. Several open spaces which are found between the shelves are functioned as a comfortable seat to read, to walk through or as a cash register. In this way the costumer is tempted to walk through the books and sit down to look through of them. On low benches along the facades books are intended to display for customers whom are passing by.
The long bookshelves which are installed inside the store is filled with the colorful of books function as the separate displays which will attract the peoples who come to this store. Generally, the books are put on the shelves side by side, which is only shows the back of a book. But inside this bookstore, at least 50 percents of the books are displayed with the front towards to the customers. With this way, it’s clearer and more attractive for the visitor. The dismountable system of reversible shelves makes it easy to choose whether to present the books face-to-face or side by side.
